Florian Brosch (Germany):
I have purchased several data sets from Hellas Sky, and my experience has been consistently excellent.
Customer service deserves special mention: communication is fast, friendly and genuinely helpful. Any questions I had were answered with impressive responsiveness.
The data quality itself is outstanding. Every set is delivered in premium condition, well-calibrated and prepared in a way that allows you to start processing immediately without additional hassle. This “ready-to-use” approach is a huge benefit and clearly shows the level of care behind the project.
I’m sharing my final processed image of IC 434 as an example of what is possible with their material. I’m very happy with the results and will definitely continue using Hellas Sky for future projects.
Highly recommended.
Alan Brunelle (Washington, USA):
I learned about Hellas-Sky while searching for a commercial provider of astroimaging services that employed the use of the RASA 11 inch or larger telescopes. I was thrilled to find only one, but with the opportunity to use the 14 inch RASA 36cm! I had tried a free download and also purchased some data sets to see how well their setup/site worked. I was impressed by the scope and happy with the results, including the seeing. With that I then moved to contract a Special Order of a field that you see below. It is a two panel mosaic. I was very pleased with working with the people at Hellas, in particular Ulf. With the other data sets I processed, I learned a lot about what I would need to ask for regarding exposure times and total integration time to achieve my goals. I can say that they met all these expectations. I should also state that because of this being a mosaic and my wanting to absolutely maximize all the potential field possible, that setting up the two panels was very efficient prior to the shoot and also in the result. While really unnecessary for this setup, I wanted to try to dither and drizzle the result. For me, this sometimes can run into issues because of the need to move the mount in between each sub, and this can cause loss of frame because of imperfect overlap of sub frames. I can say that the dithering was perfect and the loss of field with each stack was extremely small. Also the alignment of the two panels was ideal, with only slight losses of field in the crop due to the expected field rotation. Bottom line, I was able to use probably 98% of the captured data! In the end, I was happy that they were willing to put up with my fussiness on some of these issues. Thanks Ulf and thanks Hellas-Sky!
I also want to impress on how the data from a 14 inch RASA and this full frame camera will yield more than a single framed image. The best of FOV and resolution means that I will get a good number of images and be able to work with the data for months to come.
Bogdan Stanciu (Austria):
Hellas Sky is one of the best remote telescope services I have used so far. The data quality is excellent and the post-processing goes smooth and quite fast. There’s little to no noise in the exposures, and the details are just amazing. The powerful telescopes are giving amazing results and for sure I will keep an eye on the new releases every month.
For people who do not have time or do not have the setup for astrophotography, Hellas Sky is a great provider for continuing your hobby. The website is user friendly, with all the needed information about the frames, telescopes, exposure times, etc. Also, considering the high data quality, I find the prices to be good.
One of the best datasets I have processed from Hellas Sky is the galaxy pair NGC 4361 (Whale Galaxy) and NGC 4656 (Hockey Stick Galaxy). I have processed other datasets with these 2 objects but none show this much detail.
Emma Pezzi (Italy):
I recently purchased three data sets from Hellas Sky, and I was pleasantly surprised by their quality. The images are outstanding, with an excellent signal-to-noise ratio that made the processing especially rewarding. I processed the data using PixInsight, and the final result exceeded my expectations.
The pricing is very competitive and accessible, with various purchasing options ranging from subscriptions to single sets, offering great flexibility. I will definitely be buying more in the future!
Karthik Easvur (India):
The data provided was high quality with low noise with adequate integration time.
Each channel was properly calibrated with Darks and flats
There was no need to crop out the image.
Mario Zauner (Austria):
Many thanks to Hellas Sky for the opportunity to test the IC 405 & IC 410 dataset in advance. I`m amazed at how good data makes processing easier. Life could be so simple :-). I really have to say, the data is „fully exposed“! There is nearly no noise and just a very tiny gradient. The depth and resolution clearly indicate excellent sky conditions, and the high quality meets the standards HellasSky sets for its datasets. The optimal state for astrophotographic processing, while sitting (once more) in the foggy Austria.
These outstanding data allow for a stunning rendition of IC 405 & IC410, bringing out its intricate details and delicate structures. In addition to a traditional version, I have also created a starless version, emphasizing the nebula’s full extent and intricate filaments. Captured with the powerful RASA 36cm telescope and the UHC-L filter, this dataset offers astrophotographers an exceptional foundation for crafting breathtaking images of the Flaming Star Nebula
Elisa Cuccu (Italy):
I had the opportunity to process the spectacular NGC 2244 (Rosette Nebula) dataset from Hellas Sky, and I absolutely loved it. The data is fantastic, and editing was incredibly easy thanks both to the outstanding SNR (signal-to-noise ratio), which clearly reflect the high-quality skies, and the excellent optical quality of the telescopes used.
The images don’t need any heavy editing (and therefore, no expensive software or tools) to look stunning. Another huge plus is that the data is “ready to use”: the photos come fully calibrated, stacked and aligned, making the whole process even easier and more enjoyable. This way, you can spend all your time simply having fun editing!
Highly recommended, I think the results are amazing!
Edoardo Radice (Italy):
My experience with the shared data from Hellas-Sky.com has been remarkable.
I learned about the Hellas-Sky project at CEDIC 2024 in Linz, and photographing from very polluted skies in northern Italy immediately made it interesting to me. As a PixInsight user, I appreciate that the data are shared in XISF format, accurately pre-calibrated, and ready to post-process. I’m currently using the RASA-36 data sets, and the precision and clarity of the data have allowed me to create stunning deep-sky object images. The clean, gradient-free images allowed me to process my images by focusing only on extracting the best details from my pictures without thinking about solving shooting and light pollution problems.
The website user interface is intuitive, making it easy to access and utilize the data.
