Requirements for using the project (M82).
The project uses some scripts and third-party processes, not included in the PixInsight installation. These
are:
1. Scripts:
• ContinuumSubtraction;
• CombineHaWithRGB;
These script are part of iDeviceApps PixInsight toolbx. To install these scripts open PixInsight, then
navigate to menu “Resources” => “Updates” => “Manage Repositories”, then add this repository
link https://www.ideviceapps.de/PixInsight/Utilities/;
2. Processes
• NoiseXterminator (noise reduction);
• BlurXterminator (stellar reduction/correction and deconvolution).
These processes are part of the RC Astro suite. They can be obtained, in both trial and paid
versions, from www.rc-astro.com. Full details on registration/payment procedures and PixInsight
configuration to obtain the processes are available on the website.
To use the project as is, we recommend downloading the trial versions of the two processes
mentioned above, if you don’t want to purchase them immediately. Once used, if you decide not to
purchase them, you can always replace their use with that of other processes.
For noise reduction, alternative methods such as the TGVDenoise process, the
MultiscaleLinearTransformation process, or the MureDenoise script (menu SCRIPT -> Noise
Reduction) can be used. For star reduction and deconvolution, the MorphologicalTransformation
and Deconvolution processes can be used appropriately. Since we don’t want to demonstrate their
use int this place, please refer to the official documentation or videos available online.
